Why Tutor?

1-on-1 Virtual Tutoring

Achillea started only a few months before the pandemic, so we started with an online model. We worked with foster care agencies across 30 states in the U.S. (and even in Canada and Jamaica!) to serve students in the child welfare system and preventive welfare services. Achillea has also expanded its mission to include Medicaid-eligible children and youth in preventive healthcare services.

Community Outreach

More recently, Achillea developed a regional chapter system, allowing our volunteers to focus on reinvigorating our in-person model. We partner with non-profits, schools, and community organizations based in local communities, such as Plainfield Community Outreach and several Boys & Girls Clubs. Through these partnerships, we look to onboard high school volunteers in the same local area and offer them workforce-level roles at Achillea.

Canvas of Hope: Arts Ed

In partnership with Vibrant Waves, Achillea initiated Canvas of Hope in the North/Central Jersey chapter to promote creative expression for mental health in teens. Since then, Canvas of Hope has expanded into an arts education initiative for students of all ages, with our volunteers facilitating workshops from painting to piano to poetry.

Trash to Tunes: Sustainability

One of Achillea's volunteers, Aadit Shrivastava, introduced an initiative of his own to kickstart our STEM enrichment programming. Trash to Tunes is a series of hands-on workshops that use music and the arts to educate elementary schoolers about sustainability in a positive light. Too often, environmental education neglects the importance of building hope in communities over fear, and Achillea looks to instill an appreciation for the environment in youth from the start of their educational journey.
